Many dedicated citizens are responsible for the outstanding facility that is Dothan Regional Airport. The airfield began as part of an expanding United States Army Air Corp project in 1941. In 1946, Napier Field agreed to make the airfield and its improvements available to the City of Dothan and Houston County. Dothan Regional Airport is located approximately 7 miles northwest of Dothan’s central business district. It is situated in Dale County, but within the city limits of Dothan, and easily accessible for almost 500,000 people in Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.

Dothan Regional Airport includes 1,200 acres of land, an 8500′ all-weather runway, a 5000′ secondary runway, and a 27,000 square foot terminal building. There are additional buildings on the airfield occupied by Commercial Jet (MRO), FlightSafety International, and two Fixed-Base Operators, Aero-One and Flightline of Dothan. The airport operates with full-time police and fire presence and owns state-of-the-art firefighting equipment and modern navigational facilities needed to operate all types of aircraft in all types of weather in and out of the Wiregrass area.

Dothan Regional Airport is owned and operated by the Dothan-Houston County Airport Authority, Inc. It is self-supporting. Dothan Regional Airport generates its revenue from the users of the airport. There are approximately twenty businesses or agencies with activity at the airport. These entities pay rent, landing fees, and other charges for using the facility. This revenue is reinvested into the facility in the form of federally mandated projects or recommended upgrading and improvements such as resurfacing runways and taxiways, purchasing new safety equipment, and upgrading security measures.

In 1993, the Airport Authority acquired additional property adjacent to the airfield to help attract new industry to the community and ensure long-term income for the airport. This includes an access road and additional 4,800 feet of security fencing on the north side of the property.

Today, Dothan Regional Airport is a busy airport in terms of takeoffs and landings with 90,000 aircraft operations annually. 55% of these operations involve soldiers training in military aircraft. General aviation activities comprise 41% of aircraft activity, while commercial air service is 4% of activity.

Approximately 80,000 commercial air passengers pass through Dothan Regional Airport, connecting through Atlanta to destinations all over the world. Today, ExpressJet provides regional jet service for Delta, operating 3-4 daily flights from Dothan to Atlanta. Our passengers travel on the CRJ-200 jet (50 passenger seat) aircraft. Passengers can purchase tickets for travel from DHN through www.Delta.com and participate in all of Delta’s passenger programs.
